My
name is Stephanie Hannifin and I am 23 years old. I was born in Dallas Texas
but grew up in West Palm Beach, FL. I live with my parents and have one younger
sister who is 20 years old. I also have two dogs that are so cute. I love them
so much. I wish they could be here with me in Ft. Myers. Even though I am a
full time student I do have a job where I work about 25-30 hours a week. I work
at Massage Envy as a Sales Associate. I have been working there over a year and
I love my job. I like it because it’s fairly easy and I enjoy the people I work
with.
Currently, I am an Elementary Education Major at
FGCU. In the fall, I will be going in to my senior year. This summer semester
is my forth semester at FGCU. Before FGCU, I was a student at the University of
Tampa. At UT I studied Theatre and Business Administration. I transferred
schools because I could no longer afford the private school tuition. From there,
I took a semester off of school to work and figure out what I really wanted to
do with my life. During that time, that’s when I decided to be a teacher. I
chose FGCU because my younger sister really enjoyed this school. I visited the school and I loved how
organized the education program was, although I was overwhelmed by how much I
was behind since I switched my major. As I continue to complete each block of
class that I am required to complete I know that it doesn’t matter how long it
takes me to finish college. I know now that I will be going into the profession
that is perfect for me.
During my semester off of school, I
reflected on things I liked to do. I thought back on the times I worked with
children and how much I enjoyed it and was successful at it and that’s when it
dawned on me that I should be a teacher. I remember when I was growing up and
thinking to myself that I could never be a teacher. Maybe I thought it
would be hard or maybe I thought I just didn’t know enough. But times have
changed and I now know I can be a great teacher.
